| Description |
House 2 Home Network is a virtual furniture bank that serves people who were homeless and recently acquired housing. Many formerly homeless people are moving into apartments with no furniture; House 2 Home helps ensure that children have beds to sleep in and families have a dinner table to share meals together. The program is the first furniture bank of its kind in the country, using a virtual network rather than operating out of a costly warehouse space for furniture storage. When a donor makes a furniture donation they are matched with a customer request in the database. A delivery volunteer comes to the donor's house to pick up the item and delivers it to the customer's new home. The program relies on private furniture donations and staffed through the Edward Kennedy Serve America Act. The program is funded by federal stimulus dollars through the Opportunity Council and the Washington State Department of Commerce. |
