What is this Indicator? This indicator shows the percentage of adjusted gross household income given to charity.
Why this is important: People give to charity for many reasons including the internal satisfaction associated with giving, as well as the tax benefts. Giving to charity is an altruistic action that helps the community. Among Washington counties in 1997, the average percent of adjusted gross income, tax payers give to charity ranges from 2.7% in Snohomish County to 6.3% in Adams County.
Technical note: This distribution is based on data from 39 Washington counties. Whatcom County ranks 21st out of 39 counties with its taxpayers giving 3.7% of AGI to charity. |
